A Big NFL Victory
on Aug 06 in Latest News
The NFL won a big victory today in Federal Court when the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with the league that Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews violated the terms of his contract by filing a workers’ compensation claim in California, despite the clear language of his contract that he would only file such claims in Tennessee.
The 9th Circuit held that there was not enough of a nexus between the employ of Mr. Matthews and the state of California to justify the filing of a claim in California. This victory paves the way to remove possibly hundreds of these cases from the workers’ compensation arena here in California. It is unknown if the NFLPA will appeal this decision.
